Property Taxes

Summary

It makes no sense that our property taxes should go up exorbitantly just because the assessed values of our homes (our "primary residences") increase.  Just ask yourself one question:  Did my salary go up at the same rate as the assessed value on my house?

And does it not border on criminality that when we reach retirement age we might have to move out of our homes because we cannot afford the taxes?  Or that one of the biggest bills we have to worry about is paying our property taxes?

The current state of affairs is just plain wrong.

Proposal

Introduce or support legislation that would eliminate that portion of property taxes that the State receives; and work with counties to greatly reduce the taxes they receive.  Additionally, eliminate entirely the property tax for those who are 65 or older - let them enjoy the golden years they have earned without having to worry about not being able to stay in their own homes because they cannot afford the property tax.
